At the start of April, Creative Writing Club got to go through the process of finding a dedicated and energetic council for the 25-26 school year. The club is currently inviting only soon-to-be seniors to run for president, but the vice president is allowing juniors and seniors. The secretary role is available to anyone who is not a freshman.
Noa Grover, a senior and the current Creative Writing president, said, “I am so proud to be able to say that I’m president of the Creative Writing Club. Never did I think when I found it that it would become such an important part of my life, it has truly been a wonderful experience and I wouldn’t change a thing, even the hiccups.”

The voting followed a Survivor voting style in which every member (excluding current council members) wrote down the name of the person they nominated to take each specific role. The papers for each position were counted and winners were announced.
Grover added, “My advice would be to understand that we’re all still learning together. There will be ups and downs, nothing will be perfect and that’s okay.”
The new council members will be exposed to mentorship from the current council members of the Creative Writing Club, and learn how to control the schedule, come in contact with other members, and direct the club. Events will have to be planned with the school leaders and other after school activities in order to create an immersive and engaging experience for anyone who visits.
Mr. Flynn, the club advisor said, “It’s extremely important for students to have good relationships with the staff. Building good relationships with the staff can help students feel more engaged. This is even more important at a school like Shadow where there are so many students and it’s easy to feel left out.”
Recently, the club members hosted an Open Mic Poetry Night. Without contact with staff members, this opportunity would be impossible. It is entirely necessary that anyone who runs for council wants to make a difference and leave a lasting legacy for future Shadow Ridge students to enjoy and appreciate.

Mr. Flynn commented, “The club is new and while it will take some time to build it up, the open mic poetry night was a great way to let the students here at Shadow know that if they want to share their writing with a larger audience, we’ll certainly be here for it.”
For the 2025-2026 school year, the president will be Autumn Harris, the vice president is Emily Morano and the secretary is Jyhnelle Sanford. Congratulations to everyone who ran!
