Traci Kannon, the principal at Shadow Ridge High School, has recently been nominated as “Admin of the Year.” This award, though self explanatory, is very prestigious. Mrs. Coyle, the current Student Council Adviser, wrote a letter congratulating Traci Kannon for her hard work and dedication throughout her career. “It is with absolute pleasure that I write this letter to Traci Kannon, our principal, for the High School Administrator of the Year award for 2025-2026!”
Traci Kannon has been the Principal at Shadow Ridge High School for 4 years. For the duration of her time spent here, she has changed the school’s system, look, and rules dramatically.
Mrs. Kannon arrived at Shadow after being a principal at a middle school for several years. She has always been a teacher but enjoyed her time best as a literacy specialist. From there she got a Masters Degree in Administration, worked as an assistant principal at Veterans Tribute Career and Technical Academy, and finally, found herself ready to become a principal.
“I believe in public education, everyone should be given a fair shot at making themselves something,” she tells.
Her favorite part of each school year is graduation.
“I love seeing the combination of kids who achieve excellence, or I have the same pride in a kid who struggled their way for 4 years and still made their way across that stage. It is absolutely so rewarding to see both ends. It is an honor to be able to be a part of their experience,” said Kannon.
The first thing Mrs. Kannon did when she arrived at Shadow was rebrand. She put wraps on the windows, murals in the gym, and redid the library, overall just putting her best effort into “beautifying” the school.
Next year she plans to create a new schedule to help accommodate teachers in the classroom.
“We are reorganizing our admin team to ensure more help for our teachers. If it works it’s going to be a support for teachers resulting in an increase of students’ scores academically,” she details. Though these plans are not final, Mrs. Kannon is working hard to get them in motion.
Traci Kannon’s nomination for Admin of the Year is a testament to her unwavering dedication to leadership. As she continues to lead with passion, she will also continue to inspire those around her. It is clear that Mrs. Kannon has the experience, skill, and creativity to be a principal. Shadow Ridge is lucky to have her.
