Shadow Ridge High School is starting off the year with a brand-new banking system. Last year, the old one had a ton of problems, which didn’t allow students to pay their fees with a card. This was a challenge for many, since they were only able to pay fees with cash.
Shannon Berge, banker, states, “It is bringing us into this century. Finally, we’ve got tap and you can pay online or in person.”
With this new technology implemented into the school, students are finally happy to be able to pay off debts from grade school to junior high.
Noah Garcia, junior, expresses, “I hated having to find a way to get cash to pay off my class fees. Apple Pay is so much easier.”
The new system seems to be going very well. This year, Ms. Berge added everybody’s fees before school started, so she didn’t have to look up what students owed. Now, students can simply come in and pay, making the process quick and easy. Last year, the banker had to pull up each student’s schedule individually as they came in. The updated system is far more efficient, Ms. Berge just enters a student number, and payments can be made without hassle.
Cards weren’t available last year because the school was in the middle of transitioning to the new system. Parts of the old program had to be shut down so everything could be cleared out and prepared for the upgrade.

Berge continues, “We’ve had QR codes down in the PE office when they were selling PE uniforms, so students could just buy them right then and there, show the receipt, and get their PE uniform. So it’s been really good. It’s great.”
Anybody can see the use and importance of the school’s new system. Without it, students and staff would still have to pay their fees with cash. Not to mention the overall effectiveness of being able to scan a QR code and immediately pay. The change has also brought more convenience for parents, who no longer need to send cash with their kids, and teachers, who don’t have to spend time tracking down missing payments during class. The school community agrees it’s a step forward, saving everyone time, stress, and confusion while also making payments more secure and reliable.
