Students around Shadow are marking their calendars for the biggest party of the year: Prom. Taking place at Star Base on April 26th, juniors and seniors alike are already starting their prom preparations. From dress shopping to unique promposals, Broadway will be in Vegas in a short 2 months.
Jasmine Laureta, a junior and the Student Body Secretary, is one of many students head over heels for this theme. “I’m very excited for prom, especially with the Broadway theme. I am a huge film and movie fan, so the theme is perfect,” said Laureta.
Ms. Becker, a junior studies teacher and Junior Class Event Coordinator, helped choose the show stopping theme.
“Broadway was the obvious choice because, all year long, we’ve been living in a musical!” said Becker. “Every major event has had a show-stopping theme—Mamma Mia for Welcome Back, La La Land for Homecoming, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for Winter Week. So, to close the curtain on this incredible year, what better way than to bring all those musicals together in one grand finale? And where do the best musicals come to life? Broadway! Imagine stepping into a dazzling New York night, dressed to the nines, ready to experience the magic of the stage before taking on the city. That’s the energy we want to bring to this final event!”
With the dance taking place at Star Base, students can expect flashing lights, all the pop hits, and a night of pure exhilaration.
“I’ve seen a lot of photos of Star Base, and it just seemed like a good place for people to enjoy,” Laureta commented. “Considering there are different rooms with different functions- I don’t think I’ll ever get bored!”
Unfortunately, Prom is not open to all students. In order to attend the 2025 Prom, students must ensure that they do not find themselves on the “No Privilege List,” as regulated by CCSD. If a student is on the list and tries to enter the dance, they will be turned away, and there are no refunds.
Of course, Prom is not the easiest event to plan. From the start of the year, STUCO and the mentors have been working tirelessly to make the perfect night possible for the upperclassmen.
“Creating this event has been a journey that started long before the school year even began. The first step was securing the perfect venue, a process that happens the summer before. Once the venue was locked in, we moved on to choosing a theme, which set the stage for all the exciting details to follow,” commented Becker. “From there, the planning kicked into high gear: brainstorming decorations, selecting potential favors, coordinating food options, and making sure every element fits the vision. It’s a long process, but every step is taken with one goal in mind: making this an unforgettable night for everyone!”
