Last week, the Shadow Ridge High School’s performing arts department performed their own play of the hit production, Shrek The Musical.

Actors such as Adam Conboy, Lucas Halvorson, Dominic Chapman, Indy Rodriguez, Haeley and Danielle Parker, and so many other amazing actors and actresses from the theater department at Shadow Ridge participated in the musical.

The theater department collaborated with the orchestra and band departments as well, forming a beautiful live musical pit to go along with the brilliant actors and storylines.
The production went on for three days, resulting in a total of four shows; Thursday, February 14th through Saturday, February 16th, each day having a show at 6 p.m. and a matinee on Saturday at 1 p.m.
This production from Shadow Ridge, like many others, had reached not just the audience, but the actors as well, in outstanding ways.
Adam Conboy, 17-year-old senior at Shadow Ridge High School who was cast for the lead role, Shrek, commented, “I really enjoyed playing a character that wasn’t exactly “normal” and Shrek is basically the embodiment of abnormal.”
Conboy was cast in a total of 12 performances in his years at Shadow Ridge, experiencing a variety of different play genres and themes.

Shrek the Musical tackled amazing topics that touched the hearts of many audience members.
Lindsee Pretty, a junior at Shadow Ridge, comments, “A topic that I found was very prominent in Shrek the Musical was that looks don’t matter and it’s what’s on the inside that makes people truly love you for who you are.”
Being involved in so many different productions with such a wide variety of categories of themes and topics means having sharp acting skills that will allow an actor to adapt to the scenario in which they are acting in.
Conboy also adds, “Starring in Shrek is different from all of the other productions due to the fact that I had a lot more makeup and six aspects incorporated into my costume and it was the first time I tried out an accent on stage.”
Shrek the Musical, the very popular and adventurous story of a “monstrous” green ogre overcoming his out of the ordinary fairy tale existence of being mocked and feared his whole life with his new friends Donkey and Fiona, reached the hearts of many all over the world, and especially those at Shadow Ridge High School with their most recent production.
Pretty remarked, “I haven’t seen many productions at Shadow Ridge, but Shrek the Musical was the best high school musical I’ve seen so far.”
