Once a year, the music industry takes the time to reflect and honor the musical accomplishments that took place that year. Similar to the Oscars, Golden Globes, Emmys, and Tonys recognizing excellence in film, television, and theater, the Grammy Awards are specifically to acknowledge and celebrate musical achievements. On Sunday, February 2, the 67th Annual Grammy Awards took place in the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California.
Sophomore Kenidy Clapp shares her thoughts on the Grammys this year. Clapp states, “Beyoncé shouldn’t have won the Best Album of the Year or Best Country Album of the year.” Clapp also shares, “BILLIE EILISH ALL THE WAY!”

Beyoncé is traditionally recognized as a pop, R&B, and hip-hop artist. However, she is also known for mixing her style with music versatility. Her most recent album “Cowboy Carter” added country to her numerous list of genres. “Cowboy Carter” won both the Album of the Year and Best Country Album this year at the Grammys.
“Beyoncé shouldn’t have won any awards,” sophomore Hannah Westpy claims.
The results of the Album of the Year and Best Country Album of the year have caused some controversy this year because there were many other popular albums released last year that were nominated. There were also a lot of new popular country albums nominated for the Grammys, creating some competition for the title of Best Country Album of the year.
Junior Allison Brown remarks, “It was rigged, especially in the country category!!”
The process of voting for the Grammys begins with entries of songs or albums by the members or record companies, and then being sorted and checked for eligibility. After that, the Academy’s members select the five final nominees for each award, and then vote again to determine the final winner. To try to ensure fairness, voting members are only allowed to vote within their areas of expertise. However, there have been speculations of unfairness in the Grammy results. Many people think that there was bribery involved in the outcome of the Grammys.
Sophomore Mahaila Nickels comments on the outfits that the nominees wore to the Grammys this year. “The outfits always suck! I don’t care what anyone else says.”
Musicians attending the Grammys usually dress up for the occasion. These celebrities usually wear unique or custom outfits to the Grammys. Some celebrities are more willing to take a risk in their fashion style, which viewers of the Grammys have different opinions on.
