Block Blast has captured the attention of an overwhelmingly large number of students at Shadow Ridge High School and all around the world. As of November 2024, there are 40 million daily active players on Block Blast. The game was created in September of 2022, but it didn’t start getting really popular until late 2024.
This addictive game involves some brain power to figure out exactly where each block goes on the 8×8 grid. Players start out with 3 blocks in different sizes, and their job is to create a full line either vertically or horizontally, which destroys all of the blocks in that line. Both placing and destroying blocks gives players a certain amount of points, and the goal is to get the highest score possible before the player runs out of space on the grid.
Sophomore Naiya Schauerhamer is obsessed with this fun game because it keeps her entertained while also giving her brain a workout.
“Playing this game is relaxing and stimulating at the same time,” Schauerhamer says.
This game is unlike other video games because it is very logical and uses problem-solving skills to be able to get rid of blocks and not run out of space quickly.
Block Blast is also completely free and it requires no WiFi or internet connection. This is great for anyone on a long car trip or in an airplane because they can play it anywhere.
Brooke Bishop, also a sophomore, thinks the game is very engaging.
“Block Blast keeps me busy when I don’t have anything else to do,” Bishop comments. “I’m never bored when playing this awesome game.”
Many other video games might overwhelm their players with time limits, complicated tutorials, or features that require payment, but Block Blast keeps things simple. There’s nothing that will rush the player to place their blocks quickly, which gives them more time to plan their future moves.
Sophomore Lily Butler feels that the game is entertaining in multiple different ways.
“Block Blast is such a fun and addictive game that I genuinely enjoy playing!” Butler says. “Its simple yet strategic gameplay keeps me engaged as I figure out how to fit the blocks perfectly on the grid. I love how satisfying it feels to clear multiple rows or columns at once and watch my score climb higher. It’s also relaxing since there’s no time pressure, letting me play at my own pace. Whether I’m competing with myself to beat my high score or just unwinding after a long day, Block Blast is my go to game.”
