After 8 long years, the directors of Moana released a sequel, Moana 2, where Moana gets an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors to journey across the vast ocean once again. In this movie, it appears that Moana now has a little sister.
Moana 2 is currently in theatres and was released on November 27, 2024 with record setting ticket sales of over $400 million. It is currently open to watch in 4,200 theatres across the globe, but when it will be able to be streamed is unknown at this time.

However, for more exciting news, there apparently is a live action Moana in the making currently. It is said to come out sometime in the summer of 2026. Maui will be played by Dwayne Johnson, and Moana will be played as Catherine Laga’aia.
According to thedirect.com, it states, “Disney confirmed Moana will release in theaters on July 10, 2026, giving the studio over a year and a half to complete its post-production.”
With all the special effects and CGI that has to be put into the live action, it is no surprise that it will be taking that long for it to be officially released.
