Director and writer of the famous animated series How To Train Your Dragon, Dean Deblois, is currently remaking a live action version of the kid’s show. As it is being made, the movie will be released in June of 2025.
Deblois made the animation into both a series and a movie franchise. The show was released in September of 2012 and the movies have been released throughout the years 2010, 2014, and 2019.
The first movie of the franchise was about a young viking named Hiccup, who befriends a rare Night Fury dragon, whom he names Toothless. Throughout the movie, together, they discover the dragon community is misunderstood and ultimately unite the vikings and dragons, bringing peace to their land.
The second movie from the saga is more focused on the dynamic between the human and dragon duo. As they continue to ride with each other, they discover a dragon sanctuary ruled by Hiccup’s long-lost mother, Valka. She was taken by a dragon during an invasion while Hiccup was just a baby. Towards the end of the movie, they must then confront Drago Bludvist, a ruthless dragon trapper who threatens both the dragons and the vikings.
In the third movie however, Hiccup and Toothless along with several other characters from the movies discover a hidden world where all the dragons live in peace. Facing a new threat that endangers both worlds, Hiccup makes a decision to let the dragons go to the hidden world for their safety.
Students from Shadow Ridge High School are beyond excited to watch the new live action movie as the fans continue to want more from Deblois. As the news was released, many students have different beliefs and opinions on how the movie will turn out. This is due to the amount of CGI and editing that is required to make the movie. As well as the expectations of the live action from the previous show and movie animations.
A current sophomore named Mateos Perez at the Ridge has expressed how happy the series makes him as it has been a growing franchise since he was a kid. He cannot wait to watch the movie when it comes out. However, he does have his doubts on how the movie will be produced.
“I am excited to see the CGI of the dragons especially Toothless due to him being my favorite and I expect it to be one of my favorite movies because the animated movies are some of my favorites. My doubts about the movie are the casting. I saw some of the actors and who they will be playing and they don’t fit the roles that much,” comments Perez.
Another student at the Ridge who is currently a freshman, Rosely Hensley-Mokiao, has given her input about the movie. She believes that it will be good due to all the relationships between all the different dragons that show up. She also is nervous about the live action movie due to the fact that they could change things from the animated version.
Makaio mentions, “ I am looking forward to seeing the ways they make Toothless come to life, and seeing the chemistry between Toothless and the other dragons. I am doubting the movie, only because I don’t know that they wouldn’t mess it up and make it completely different from the animated version.”
The new movie for the franchise brings out many thoughts and opinions from students at Shadow. However many people in the world cannot wait to see this movie take off or have a lack of success in 2025.
