On November 14th, 15th, and 16th, the Shadow Ridge Theater hosted the first play of the 2024 school year, Puffs.
Puffs is a parody of the famous movie series, Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling, written by Matt Cox. This play is about a boy, Wayne Hopkins and his friends, a group of outcasts at a school for wizardry in England, who are sorted into the class of Puffs, and looked down upon by the rest of the school.
Junior, Dezirae Gomez-Stoia, who played Myrtle, Deathbuddy, and Professor Lanny in the play, says, “The play was really fun to perform in.”
Micah Salazar and Lucas Halvorson (Lily Butler) The Shadow Ridge Theater is always looking for more students to involve in their performances to share the fun with the whole school.
It took a lot of work from the Theater Council and actors, however, junior Austin Burnett, who played Malfoy, Mad Eye Moody, Viktor Krum, Professor Turbin, and Sal, comments, “With my original roles it took me about two weeks to rehearse, however I had to take on three more roles from people who were unable to perform in the play, so I’d say it took a month to memorize the lines.”
Like most plays, Puffs took quite a while for every actor to be able to give the audience an amazing performance.
Burnett adds, “In total for blocking and stage presence, it took basically since the show was first announced all the way up until the performance dates, and even adding more humor as each show went on.”
Gomez-Stoia adds, “It was really chaotic, but in a fun way.”
Puffs got many popular reviews from students, teachers, and staff all over Shadow Ridge.
The Shadow Ridge Theater has performed many plays over the years, and Puffs and many other plays really reflect on how hard everyone works together as a team. The stage hands who also participated in the mechanics of the play had a major impact on the production of Puffs.
The Shadow Ridge Theater is a great opportunity for student actors to step out of their comfort zone and try something new with a team of other amazing student actors.
Burnett includes, “If I had to choose a favorite moment of Puffs, I would say any time I got to play as Mad Eye Moody.”
The Shadow Ridge Theater is beyond proud of the plays that they are able to perform to the entire school as a team.
