This coming Christmas season, The Giving Machine at Downtown Summerlin will be available as an opportunity for people to buy something for someone else who really needs it.
The organization running the Giving Machine and distributing the donated products is The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. 100% of every donation goes straight to the participating non-profit organizations from the Church, which allows them to purchase and deliver the items chosen by the donors.
On the Church of Jesus Christ in Las Vegas’s website it says, “The Giving Machines provide a way for people to easily help those in need and to make the Christmas season a little more meaningful for themselves – and for countless others. Imagine swiping your credit card at a vending machine – but instead of buying a candy bar for yourself, you’re buying a goat for a family in a third-world country to start a business or a pair of shoes for a homeless high school student in Southern Nevada.”
Some of the ting you can donate at the Giving Machine include…
- Meals and Groceries
- Clean and Sustainable water sources (The building of a well)
- Shelter
- Clothing and bedding
- educational Assistance
- Healthcare services
- Immunizations
- Job Training
- Hygiene kits
- Chickens
- Goats
- Fish
- Seedlings
The Giving Machines were created to be a unique opportunity to help “Light the World.”
“#LightTheWorld is an invitation from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to transform Christmas into a season of service. It’s a worldwide movement to touch hearts and change lives by doing the things Jesus did: feeding the hungry, comforting the lonely, visiting the sick and afflicted, and showing kindness to everyone.”
The Giving Machines are a wonderful addition to this invitation, allowing people to bring light to someone else’s life by using any of the machines in over 100 locations all across the globe.
Many of the students here at Shadow Ridge have taken the invitation to help “Light the World” and have made donations at the Giving Machine. Not only has it been a great experience helping someone else, but giving to others has deeply impacted the students personally.
Marissa Spjut, a sophomore said, “I got an art kit for someone, and I love art, so it was fun to give something like that to someone who [would really appreciate it]. It made me feel really good to do a service for someone else.”
“My family bought 3 chickens, and I felt so awesome afterwards because I knew we were helping someone in need that we didn’t even know,” remarked Adam Fitzgibbons, a junior at Shadow.
Aspen Stevens, junior stated, “It’s cool to see how blessed we really are and how we can use what we’ve been blessed with to give back to others.”
“[Donating at the Giving Machine] has helped show me how privileged I am to have the ability to help others who don’t have as much as I do,” said Ava Smith, also a junior.
Courtney Howard, (junior) remarked, “I bought glasses for someone and felt splendid!“
Mckenzie Ludwig (junior), stated, “I bought a goat for someone. I thought it was pretty cool to give an opportunity to someone who needed it.”
