On September 6th, 2024, Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice came out in all Cinemark Theatres; the starring actors were Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder, who were the main characters in the 1988 Beetlejuice, along with the wildly popular actress Jenna Ortega, who recently played in Wednesday Addams by Tim Burton.
The sequel Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice follows Lydia Deets, now a mother, as she teams up with the infamous Beetlejuice to rescue her teenage daughter Astrid from the afterlife. Astrid has been tricked into exchanging her life for a ghost named Jeremy’s, prompting Lydia to reluctantly summon Beetlejuice and sign a contract to marry him in exchange for his help.
The story unfolds with twists and turns as they navigate the afterlife’s system, encountering various characters from the previous movie and leading to a confrontation that determines their fate.
The movie takes a spin when Beetlejuice’s ex wife Delores comes back to life at the beginning of the film and is searching for him throughout the movie, keeping everyone on their toes as she sucks the souls out of different characters.
Students at the Ridge, such as Mahaila Nickels and Brynna Williams, enjoyed the movie however, there were some parts in the movie that they disliked and wished had been different.
Nickels comments, “I thought that the movie was more of a comedy than an actual “plot” but it was a really good movie and I would watch it again. My favorite part was when Delores came back alive in the beginning because I love her character. I think the worst part was when Bob died because his character was so funny and then they killed him off.”
Bob was Beetlejuice’s right hand man, he is a part of the Shrinkers, a company who works for Beetlejuice, at the call center. As the main representative and leader of his organization, Bob’s hilarious presence in the comedy horror sequel has quickly become beloved, adding to the pain of his second death in the Beetlejuice 2 ending.
Bob is killed off by Delores as she takes his soul during a scene where Beetlejuice uses him as a cover to escape her presence.
Williams mentions, “My favorite part of the movie was when they revealed that Jeremy killed both of his parents. I liked the detail and suspense they had on the audience when Lydia found out. I didn’t like when Beetlejuice was serenading Lydia at the altar. It was a very boring part of the movie that lasted a little too long for my liking.”
Williams would recommend this movie for someone else to watch. Although she was bored during some scenes, she was also intrigued by others. One may like to watch the movie if they are into comedic relief, thriller, and suspenseful genres.
“I would recommend someone to watch this movie if they love the original, because the sequel definitely has the same vibes as the first movie but with its own twists and turns.”
