Every year, the Shadow Ridge Sinfonia and Chamber Orchestras perform a thrilling Halloween concert to get students, parents and staff excited for the upcoming spooky season.
This year, the concert date is October 9th at 5:00 p.m. in the Shadow Ridge theater. Performers will be dressed to impress in their special Halloween costumes.
Senior Chamber Orchestra cellist, Stephanie Sanchez, says, “Wearing costumes makes it [the concert] really cute, and most of us are going to match costumes.” She comments, “I think it really gets you a little more hyped up for Halloween itself.”
The Halloween concert is full of many stirring and exciting pieces that most players love performing.
Sanchez adds, “I’m excited to play the pieces, one of my most favorites would be The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” a whimsical piece by Richard Meyer which grabs the attention of many audience members. “I think it’s an amazing piece, just being able to see how pretty everyone sounds together as a group as well,” states Sanchez.
The annual Halloween theme is very popular among students and performers. Junior Sinfonia orchestra cellist, Lili Roque, includes, “It’s a cool concept and it really ties it all together because the audience is also involved.”
Students are also offered the chance to set the stage with Halloween themed decor.
Sanchez comments, “I love doing the Halloween theme, it always makes the concerts fun. Most of us end up staying after school to decorate and we all have tons of fun.”
These orchestras rehearse as much as possible from the beginning of the school year all the way up until their performance date. Students put in a lot of preparation to make not just the Halloween concert, but all concerts enjoyable for everyone in the audience.
“I’m excited about being able to show the audience what our group has been working on, as it shows progress and dedication,” says sophomore Sinfonia orchestra violinist, Trinity Anderson. “However, I do get nervous when it comes down to the concert, I get scared I’m going to mess up,” she says.
According to many performers, concerts can be very nerve wracking yet beautiful experiences. Even the slightest mistake can throw off the whole song. But, many say the nerves are worth it. In the end, they have amazing memories to look back on.
