In the newer development of North Las Vegas, plans are underway to replace the former casino of Texas Station and Fiesta Rancho. Bringing an astonishing project that goes by the name of “Hylo,” the Hylo project will bring a new look to the area where the Texas Station and Fiesta Rancho once were. Including housing, sports fields, shopping locations, and a 10-acre commercial area, and led by the CEO Cary Lefton, this project will expand 73 acres from North Rancho Drive and West Lake Mead Boulevard.
According to 8 News now some of the main goals of the Hylo project include a residential area where people can live, which will span 37 acres. Another essential for this project is a grocery store with outlets to satisfy residents’ everyday needs. Across the street, to the north of Lake Mead Boulevard, an athletic complex will also be built, including two ice rinks, a sports field, and an outdoor entertainment venue. Last but not least, a 150-room hotel is also to be built in the Hylo project allowing tourists to come and take a look at this place themselves.
Many mixed feelings of this project are continuing to brew. Some feel that this will cause more traffic and some feel that the northwest area of Las Vegas needs an outlet and a new place like this. However many are interested in what this project will bring to the residents of Las Vegas in the future.
Students from Shadow Ridge High School also seem to be interested in the Hylo project.
According to Cesar Guerrero 10th grade “I think this will be a great addition to Las Vegas as a whole. Also to North Las Vegas of course. I will now have an outlet to go to that’s closer to me instead of going to Summerlin. The sports area also does seem like a cool addition, I’m more excited to see how that’s going to look.”
Students also seem interested in the ice rinks and how they will look and if the Hylo project will do something special with them.
Sophomore, Luis Flores, stated, “Yeah the sports area does sound really cool. I want to see if they will do anything cool or unique with the ice rinks. The shopping will be great to see as well. The hotel also does seem like a cool idea as well. This is literally like a whole town it seems like.”
Some students feel that the hotels will cause more traffic in the city.
9th grader Elliot Garcia states “Las Vegas is already getting lots of traffic as it is, now the hotels are another excuse to have more traffic. While the idea does sound great, I’d like to see how this all plays out.”
As the Hylo project continues, this definitely sparks excitement and curiosity among the people in Las Vegas. The Hylo project brings a lot of curiosity to the Las Vegas development and will most likely be a great addition to the city.
