Man’s Mangy Best Friend

On February 7, 2024 a ruckus caused by a mutt occurred in both Shadow Ridge High School and the nearby Waterfall community. It seems that this whole ordeal started because someone’s dog buried through the gate to run rampant through the streets around SRHS.

Waterfall resident, Jaden May, woke up to a loud burrowing coming from his backyard. A Shadow Ridge student, who wishes to remain anonymous, was walking to school and got startled by the dog who escaped from May’s yard. The student was chased all the way to the Shadow Ridge campus.

“I watched the whole thing happen from the traffic line, the kid rounded the corner and led him all the way to the school.” stated Caleb Cameron, a parent of a student at Shadow Ridge.

The Waterfall community runs checks to see how well trained the pets of the residents are, however Jaden May has been avoiding the evaluation for months on end, but he has somehow gone under the radar.

May stated, “Well I would have loved to put him through the evaluation but it’s not even my dog so I didn’t know if it would be allowed, honestly, the kid should have just stopped running and let the dog sniff him.”

The anonymous student was concerned about the dog the morning before; apparently the dog had been causing quite a racket in the neighborhood, however, no one felt it was necessary to step up and say something.

“I honestly thought he was just playing with the dog late at night, I mean, who am I to judge someone’s sleep schedule and what they do with their dog at night. For all I know he could have been getting attacked and the dog was just trying to help, I didn’t know the thing wasn’t even trained,” said the student.

Once the dog was stopped by 9 campus monitors he was brought back to May where they had him formally apologize to the student. He was then fined and instructed to give the dog back to whomever had him to begin with. Because of May’s cooperation, the dog was able to stay in the community.

“I don’t really see the big deal, I mean the mutt got out on its own and wasn’t purposefully let out, and the boy didn’t even get harmed in the first place.” stated the parent. “I also don’t think that Jaden boy should have left his dog outside in the first place, especially since it wasn’t in a good mood to begin with.”
