Why are Stanley’s so Popular?

Since November 2023, Stanley cups have been a huge trend on TikTok. The Stanley brand has been around for over 100 years, but all of a sudden their quencher water bottles became popular again. The most popular cup design is the “Stanley Adventure Quencher Travel Tumbler,, which was released back in 2017. The popularity of this bottle comes from its easy access. It has an open straw on the top and a large handle on the side, making it easy to carry and drink out of. This 40 oz. quencher is also insulated and dishwasher safe.

Junior Maya Garay explains, “I run track and cross country so having a good water bottle is important to me. I currently use an Ello, but I’m definitely thinking about getting a Stanley because of how much water it holds.” 

Over the holidays, a girl on TikTok took a video of her car after it caught on fire. The only thing that survived was her Stanley cup, and it still had ice in it despite the incident. The video received 9.1M likes and the official Stanley account reached out and offered to replace her car.  

Stanley cups are not the only water bottles that are gaining popularity fast. Other brands like Owala and Meoky have skyrocketed in sales since the Stanley Quencher. TikTok users can be seen comparing all three brands to see which one is “best.” Most people refused to jump on the Stanley bandwagon because of a recent incident in Target. Customers were seen sleeping outside of the store for the special Valentine’s Day cup. In the viral video, customers can be seen pushing others out of the way just to buy this limited “Galentine’s Day” quencher. Target has since set a limit on how many cups customers can buy at one time.

Small businesses were quick to jump on the trend to make accessories and other add-ons that allow customers to customize their bottle. The most popular accessories are straw covers, charms, carrier bags, name tags, and silicone boots. Stanley also allows customers to add custom messages and pictures onto their bottle through their website. 

Junior Kaden Moya says, “I personally don’t get the hype with Stanley cups but it is nice how they keep ice in them for a long time. I don’t think it is worth spending $50 on a water bottle though.”

Back in 2019, Hydroflasks had a similar effect on TikTok users. The hashtag “vsco girl” meant that girls wore scrunchies and carried their Hydroflask around. Most of them were covered in stickers and homemade bracelets were often attached to the side handle. 

Garay continues, “I think the price is worth it if you’re going to use the bottle all the time, or if you’re someone who likes to stay hydrated throughout the day.”

CNN explains, “Stanley’s 40-ounce Quencher cup gained rabid popularity for its candy-like array of colors and its ability to keep beverages hot and cold for long periods of time.” 

Stanley has recently gained a more female based clientele due to the variety of colors and accessories that can be added to them. Although, the Stanley Quencher is for everyone, and over the holidays it was used as a popular gift for both women and men. Another reason as to why Stanley has gained so much popularity is because of TikTok influencers including them in videos representing a “clean” or “healthy” lifestyle. Trends like these continue to inspire people to buy a cup of their own.
