Competing in sports is a great way to stay active and build bonds as a team; girls flag football season is near, and there are many new skilled and talented girls looking forward to participating. With intramurals starting the excitement has started to kick in

Senior Brooklyn Boyd said, “I’m excited for flag this season because I have been playing since my freshman year, so now as a senior I’m joining the team and wanting to be a part of a second family. I play flag football for fun, but if I get a scholarship from playing then I would love that too.”

The spotlight starts to shine on girls flag football now offering many opportunities such as scholarships, which brings an abundance of attention to girls who are interested in playing football at Shadow Ridge. Girls 7 on 7 flag football has been a trend on social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram. After seeing this, many students attending Shadow Ridge High School are intrigued and packing the intramural practices.

Coaches are also excited and surprised by this sudden interest in this sport.

Coach Pisciotta stated, “I am definitely looking forward to the three-peat season. I am very excited about the many future scholarship opportunities with Nevada State University building a team. I’m excited to see our girls stay in state and compete.”

We have a lot of girls returning from last year and we want to keep building upon our success. We set a very high standard for the expectations of our program.

With this sudden rush of curiosity, coaches are eager to teach newcomers and build a strong team using skills such as teamwork, competitiveness, and unity. Players are also looking forward to good times, hard work, and success.

Sophomore, Taliah Smith, said, “I’m excited to make new friends and be successful in this season and the flag has really changed my life for the better, not only keeping me disciplined but safe as well.”

The Shadow Ridge Flag Football Team has created many good friendships and bonds.

“Flag has given me the opportunity to form new friendships; I look forward to creating new bonds and making new friends,” said Annalise Hill, sophomore.

Typically the girls flag football team has been known to have a great dynamic off and on the field since they spend so much time together.

Sophomore Joe Etta Jones says, “I like flag football because I get to create and build new bonds and have strong and meaningful relationships.”

Even if a player doesn’t have experience in flag football  they are still welcome to try out for the team, coaches are always looking for motivated athletes.

Senior, Nevaeh Bennet said, “Playing flag football is definitely a new experience for me, I was a little discouraged at first because I was unable to pick up on certain drills and I always forgot the routes. But, after some time I was able to master most of the skills and don’t have much trouble remembering routes. Now that I have been going to the intramurals I am in spirit to grow and benefit my team.”
