Daisy Jones and The Six
March 1, 2023
Author Taylor Jenkins Reid has gained international popularity from her books like The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, Malibu Rising and more. Her most popular to date is Daisy Jones and The Six. This book is about a fictional band of the same name. Their story is retold by the members of the band and other people associated with it. The book was announced to be adapted into a TV series by Amazon Prime back in 2020, and is set to release March 3rd of this year.
The captivating story follows It-Girl Daisy Jones and her joining of the band called The Six led by Billy Dunne. The book is written in an interview style, with the band’s legacy being retold from the band themselves. The band consists of Daisy Jones, Billy Dunne, Graham Dunne, Warren Rhodes, Eddie Loving, Karen Sirko and Pete Loving (though his character doesn’t appear in the TV adaptation.). Billy’s wife Camila is also a main character in the book. The band only released one album titled Aurora which made them famous. A slogan from the story is “Their music made them famous, their breakup made them infamous.”
The story was praised and loved by millions of fans so much so that Amazon Prime and Hello Sunshine Productions (actress Reese Witherspoon’s production company) adapted it into a ten episode series. The first three episodes debut March 3rd and are told in a documentary style, similar to the book’s interview format.
“I read the book before the show was announced now that it’s almost out I’m so very excited. I think it’s very innovative and unique that they are also releasing an album alongside the show considering that is what the book majorly surrounds, it really immerses the fans into this fictional band and I can’t wait to watch!” says sophomore Bella Mora
The main cast consists of Riley Keough as Daisy Jones, Sam Claflin as Billy Dunne and Camila Morone as Camila Dunne, all of which are already being praised for their performance. Riley Keough is also a “nepotism baby” like Jones with her famous mother Lisa-Marie Presley. Claflin is known for starring in book to screen adaptations as he previously starred in The Hunger Games trilogy and the 2016 film Me Before You.
Not only is the book becoming a series, but the band is becoming real. The band’s once fictional album Aurora will be released along with the show with two songs, Regret Me and Look At Us Now (Honeycomb) already on streaming platforms. All the vocals and instruments come from the actors’ respective roles in the band. Musicians Marcus Mumford and Phoebe Bridgers also helped write the songs for the album. The album will be released at the same time as the show.
The show will be released in four parts, the first three being released on March 3rd and each week until March 24, there will be a new episode released.
