Sophomore Trevor Merrill has an auto detailing business where he works hard on detailing cars in his local community in his free time while balancing school, friends, and family.
“I don’t currently have any employees but I hope to be hiring around January of 2026,” Merrill explains. “I want to upscale my business to have my own shop so I can offer ceramic coatings, wraps, and paint. I want to then start to do upholstery and work on high end cars much like the company Mansory.”
Merrill’s big goals are pushing him towards success and his aspirations. He isn’t planning on stopping there, because he’s hoping to continue to grow his business, eventually leading to him owning a shop one day.
“Definitely my parents and my marketing teachers have been my biggest supporters. They all have been willing to help me think through tough situations and make big decisions. My parents are the ones who helped me get my first basic supplies and I’ve been able to scale up from there. My teachers have been able to help me think through the requirements of my business and the importance of an LLC, insurance, business bank account, and much more,” Merrill stated
His undenying support from others has helped make his story as successful as it has been. From an aspiring high schooler, to a successful business owner within reach, he is an inspiration to many.
Business and Marketing teacher Mr. Lewis says, “I can’t really take the credit because Trevor is one of the most motivated students I’ve ever seen. He would take our class discussions further by researching the topics and applying them to his current situation in real time. I am confident he’ll be successful at running his current business and any others he decides to open in the future.”
Merrill’s hard work and dedication have made his success possible. For Merrill, this is just the beginning of his bright future. Merrill’s participation in class makes his business thrive even more than imaginable.
“Definitely his enthusiasm for creating something from nothing, and having it make him some money in the process,” explains Lewis. “I was able to see him from his early beginnings of purchasing the equipment to run his car detailing business to now where he’s licensed and has a full detailing trailer. Watching this is the whole reason I wanted to teach business and marketing and it’s incredible to see.”
Lewis has been a strong supporter since the beginning and is so proud of Merrill and his accomplishments. Merrill has proven himself to be successful throughout life with his big goals.
Merrill says, “I manage school, business, and daily living by making sure I know my schedule and the things I have going on each week. I have to make sure to communicate details with my parents and plan time for the gym, friends and family, and free time. Overall to manage everything, you need to be aware of school events, family events and plan your business schedule around it. For example, I can’t do any jobs during the school day so I work with the client to figure out something that works best for both of our schedules.”
For Merrill, this isn’t just a hobby, it’s a lifestyle and a head start on his future plans. Merrill is one busy man, still making time for others and putting his clients before himself. His productive work ethic and great attention to detail allow him to make the necessary sacrifices for his business.
