The Women’s Varsity Volleyball team at Shadow Ridge has developed a reputation for grit, talent, and discipline. Year after year, the Mustangs continue to build on their foundation of success, creating a culture where hard work and determination are just as important as skill. What sets Shadow Ridge apart from other teams is not only their ability to communicate on the court but also their commitment to their team. They also strive for growth, not only as athletes but as individuals.
Over the past few seasons, the Mustangs have proven they are more than capable of taking on tough competitors. Their history includes memorable victories, including a state championship run that proves the program’s potential to rise to the top. Even in years when the roster turns over and seniors graduate, Shadow Ridge demonstrates the ability to reload instead of rebuild.

However, younger players often step up, filling key roles and gaining valuable experience, while returning players provide the leadership that holds the team together.
Junior varsity player, Samantha Snow says,“ My favorite part about volleyball is just playing in general. Of course I enjoy playing with my teammates but I like to get the experience on the court, volleyball in itself has taught me so many things like responsibility, emotional regulation, and teamwork all in one.”
The culture of the program is built on resilience. Practices are designed not only to sharpen the skills on the court like serving, passing, setting, and hitting, but also to prepare the athletes mentally for high pressure situations that may take place in games. Coaches emphasize the importance of staying focused, pushing through hardship, and playing for each other. The result is a team that thrives in tight situations and refuses to back down, no matter the challenge.

Leadership plays a huge role in the Mustangs’ success. Captains and upperclassmen are looked to for guidance, and their ability to lead by example often sets the tone for the rest of the roster. Younger players quickly learn that effort and hustle are just as important as big plays.
Junior, Jaycee Gormley said, “We encourage each other and support each other and then my coaches always know the right thing to say and are so uplifting and encouraging.”
It’s not unusual to see a sophomore or a junior step into a crucial role and make a significant impact, proving that Shadow Ridge’s future remains bright. But of course, the road to success is never easy or straight forward.
Competing in a tough league means that every match is a test of consistency. The Mustangs are constantly challenged to minimize mistakes, sharpen defense, and find ways to outlast opponents with strong offensive systems. Still, these challenges push the team to grow, and each season adds another layer of experience to the program’s legacy. Looking ahead, the expectations for the Shadow Ridge volleyball team remains high.
