Shadow Ridge senior Weston DiBari is known around campus for his friendly personality and school spirit, but what many don’t know is that he’s also a professional mascot for the Las Vegas Aviators, a semi professional baseball team. What began as a family connection has turned into a unique experience that combines his creativity, confidence, and community spirit.
DiBari first became interested in mascot work because of his family.
DiBari announced,“It was because my cousin did it.”

Both his uncle and cousin were involved with the Aviators organization, and through their connections, Weston was able to get involved himself. From there, he discovered how much he enjoyed the atmosphere and the fun of bringing smiles to people’s faces.
Before games or events, DiBari says the preparation process is surprisingly relaxed.
“It’s actually really chill because all the people you know, because you have two mascots, so we’re just kind of chatting back and forth, just hanging out,” he said.
While some performers spend hours rehearsing routines, Weston’s job focuses more on reading the crowd and keeping the energy high.
During events, DiBari enjoys interacting with fans in creative ways. He recalled that some of his best memories come from joking around with people in the stadium suites.
“Me and one of my other friends would go into the suites and just mess with people,” he said with a laugh.
Those fun, spontaneous moments are what make the job memorable.
However, being a mascot also comes with physical challenges. DiBari wears several pieces of gear, including a chest piece, shin guards, and a helmet that doesn’t have a chin strap.
DiBari explained, “I have to keep it on my head.”
The heavy costume can get uncomfortable, but DiBari manages to stay positive and focused on entertaining the crowd.
Even though the work can be demanding, DiBari values the experience and the lessons it brings. He says being a mascot has helped him understand how people react to joy and excitement, giving him a different perspective on human connection.
Dibari’s advice he would give to other students that are interested in becoming a mascot is really simple, “Don’t be scared to do whatever. You are the one who’s making the fun. Don’t be scared to have fun.”
