Senior Kate Myers was inspired to join the tennis team by her siblings just four years ago, and she hasn’t looked back since. Tennis has brought her many friendships and has also taught her hard work.

Myers stated, ¨I wanted to play because my siblings played and because I love it.¨
Since joining the tennis team Myers favorite part has been creating new relationships. She has been able to meet many new people and she loves the team cheers she gets to participate in.
¨We motivate each other by cheering everyone on and doing a team cheer before each match,¨ Myers states.

For Myers, the most challenging part about being on the tennis team is the high competition and pressure. Tennis is a game made of mistakes, and whichever team makes the least amount of mistakes wins. This has been a mental challenge for the young athlete and staying positive is one of the biggest obstacles she’s had to overcome.
Myers says, “The toughest part is having a good mindset even on days when you’re not playing the best.”
Myers goals for this season are to get in a lot of practice and be fully committed to the game. She also wants to work on staying positive and not focusing on the point before focusing on the present.
Myers also values prayer, and one of her goals is to emphasize having a team prayer before each match. Praying before each match will help her work on staying positive and will help her let go of her past mistakes.
Myers favorite game this year was playing Arbor View. This match was very competitive due to Arbor being one of Shadow’s biggest rivals. Myers really enjoyed the pressure of this game, and she can’t wait until she gets to play them again.
Myers prefers to play singles as she would much rather the pressure just be on her. She values the friendships she has made on the team, and she wouldn’t want her competitive drive to get in the way.
Myers states, “I prefer singles because I can focus on myself instead of relying on a partner.”
Overall tennis has taught Myers hard work and discipline. Since joining the tennis team she has learned how to handle pressure and the importance of teamwork. The Women’s Tennis Team is always looking for new girls and Myers recommends any one looking for a good time should join the team.
Myers states, “I would tell someone to try out. The team is so much fun and tennis is a sport you can play for the rest of your life so join the team.”
