Game clubs are often seen as casual hangouts for gamers, but they offer much more than just a place to play. For those who are interested in a little competition, come by and join Alivia White and Rebecca Cleveland’s Game Club in room 905. This club will be held from 1:20 to 3:45 every Thursday.
At Shadow Ridge, White and Cleveland are science teachers who both love a good competition when it comes to board games. For many, Game Club is a sanctuary where they can express their passion without judgement, surrounded by like-minded individuals who understand the nuances and joys of gaming.
Both White and Cleveland agree that Game Club always shares laughs, and is always having a great time no matter what; they are always bringing a positive, uplifting, and amazing community. White and Cleveland love seeing the positivity in the game and the amount of friendship bonds, they are always eager to see new kids join the club.
“There is always a lot of laughter,” White states, “It is always a good time.”
In Game Club, there are a variety of games to choose from: board games, online games, trivia games, etc. Cleveland believes that the kids choose the classic and trivia games more than anything else. Kids are more than welcome to bring their games from home and share with the students in the club. Cleveland and White never once had a regret in creating a club that is always filled with enjoyment and positivity.
Cleveland states, ”The kids really enjoy strategy games, but they also really like some of the classics.”
Cleveland and White believe it is one of the most entertaining clubs to join at Shadow Ridge.
Cleveland stated, “I mean if you love playing games with your family, come try them here too.”

By joining Game Club, students would not only excel in strategic thinking, but have tons of fun doing it! Whether it’s a board game like chess or a collaborative video game, students challenge themselves to think ahead, anticipate opponents’ moves, and adapt to changing circumstances. Students learn to work together towards common goals, resolve conflicts, and celebrate each other’s successes. These social interactions can lead to lasting friendships and a stronger sense of community, making Game Club a valuable benefit in promoting social well-being.
“Everyone is very inclusive, lifelong friendships are made,” White stated.
