At Shadow Ridge High School, students often walk into the nurse’s office with headaches, sore throats, or even just the stress of a long school day. Behind the front desk is nurse assistant Rebecca Levitt, whose calm presence and dedication to students have made her a vital part of the campus community.
Levitt has been working at Shadow Ridge for several years, supporting the school nurse while also building her own bond with students and staff. Her role may not always get the spotlight, but it plays an important part in keeping the school running smoothly.
“She always makes sure students feel comfortable when they come in,” said junior, Taylor Metcalf
From handling paperwork to checking on sick students, Levitt’s day is rarely slow. On some days, dozens of students stop by for care. Whether it’s taking a student’s temperature, giving out ice packs, or simply listening when someone needs to talk, Levitt treats each visit with patience and professionalism.
“She doesn’t just do her job, she goes above and beyond to make sure people are okay,” said freshman, Gabriel Valencia
Students say that her approachable personality makes it easier to visit the nurse’s office. Many teens can feel nervous about missing class or unsure about whether they should see a doctor. Levitt helps ease that stress by answering questions and providing guidance in a supportive way.
Freshman Rebecca Esparza stated, “She’s like a second mom at school, always checking up on everyone.”
But her impact goes beyond just health. Levitt has also become a source of encouragement, often reminding students to drink water, eat properly, and take care of themselves during busy weeks. Teachers and staff members rely on her too, knowing that she is quick to help in emergencies or step in when the nurse is busy.
“She’s dependable, and the school wouldn’t be the same without her,” said Principal Traci Kannon
Levitt says one of her favorite parts of the job is connecting with students. For many, she’s one of the first adults they talk to when they’re not feeling well, and she takes pride in being someone they can trust.

“She told me she just wants every student to feel safe when they walk in,” senior, Samathna Hunt
As Shadow Ridge continues to grow, the nurse’s office remains a steady place for care and comfort. While the students might only spend a few minutes in her office, Levitt’s kindness often leaves a lasting impression.
Sophomore Reagan Love said, “She’s the kind of person who makes school a better place every single day.”
