Junior, Carson Gregory has been a consistent force on the Shadow Ridge High School Varsity Boys Soccer Team, playing the role of center-back in defense. He began playing soccer as a young child and has since dedicated himself to pushing both himself and his teammates to improve.
“I’ve been playing soccer ever since I was a little kid and I enjoy pushing me and my teammates to get better,” Gregory says.
Gregory plays a demanding position in the heart of the defense, where he prides himself on his ability to shut down opposing players. “I play center-back and I don’t let anyone get by me,” he shares. His defensive skills are a key part of Shadow Ridge’s strategy, as he helps prevent opposing teams from scoring and protects the goal with strong communication and positioning.
Though not currently a team captain, Gregory admires the leadership shown by his captains and respects the hard work they put in. “They deserve to be captains because they put in the work and they lead the team,” he explains. He hopes to develop his own leadership skills as he gains more experience on the team.

Looking toward the future, Gregory doesn’t plan to continue playing soccer beyond high school. “I think I’m probably done after senior year,” he says. Despite this, he remains focused on making the most of his remaining time playing for Shadow Ridge and cherishing the memories he is building with his teammates.
This upcoming 2024-2025 season, Gregory is motivated by high team goals. “I’m looking forward to a chance at state and making a run in the playoffs,” he comments. His determination to help the team succeed is clear as he prepares for the challenges ahead.
Off the field, Gregory credits his parents as his biggest supporters throughout his soccer journey. “…they always show their support,” he says. Their encouragement has helped him stay motivated, even through tough times.
His road hasn’t been without obstacles. A serious knee injury sustained while snowboarding made his return to soccer challenging. “I hurt my knee pretty bad snowboarding and it was hard coming back from that injury to play soccer,” he admits. But his dedication and hard work helped him bounce back stronger.
Though he does not take private lessons, Gregory’s commitment to improving his skills continues through daily club practices. He has played center-back for local clubs such as LVSA and Players Academy throughout his high school years, gaining valuable experience and sharpening his skills.

Gregory also looks up to his coach, recognizing the impact of strong leadership on and off the field. “I look up to Coach LaVoie,” he states. The guidance and support from Coach LaVoie have helped him grow as a player and teammate.
As he enters another season with Shadow Ridge, his teammates and coaches rely on his defensive skills and steady presence on the field. Gregory’s passion for the game and commitment to the team make him a valuable player to watch.
One of the coaches for the soccer program as mentioned, Coach LaVoie, has high hopes for this senior as this is his final year playing for the Ridge.
“I think Carson is a great player and I hope he continues to carry himself upward throughout his life and career. He has been a big help and inspiration throughout his years playing soccer and I am glad I had the opportunity to coach and meet him,” mentions LaVoie.
