Cheerleading isn’t just about pom poms and halftime shows, it’s about teamwork, discipline, and unforgettable memories. For sophomore Brooke Hisey, a new addition to the Shadow Ridge Cheer Team, it has been a journey that has turned into a big part of her life. When her friend told her that a spot had opened up on a cheer team in Idaho, she stepped in to help, and never looked back. Being a part of a close knit team has shaped her life and surrounded her with some of her best friends.
“Cheer has allowed me to grow in so many ways. It pushes me to push myself even harder, it has given me so many friends and has allowed me to open up to more people.”
Being on a team that really supports each other makes a big difference. For Hisey, cheer wasn’t just about learning routines or going to practice, it was about being with people who believed in her and helped her grow. She became more confident, made new friends, and pushed herself to be better in her sport. What made the moments of winning so special was the bond she had with her team.

“I think my biggest highlight so far has been winning districts with my team in Idaho. At that moment it was just pure happiness with all of my friends. I think it really stands out because it was a time when me and my teammates were all really close to each other, and even if we had lost we would have been happy to spend that time together.”
Even with big moments like district wins behind her, Hisey is still focused on whats ahead. She has learned that success in cheer doesn’t just come from the competitions, it comes from consistency, teamwork, and the love she has for her sport. As her junior season begins, Hisey is motivated and looking forward to whatever comes next
“My goals for cheer this season are to make it to nationals and win, and also win at Jamz this year. I mostly want to enjoy the time I have in the sport and continue to push myself to keep growing stronger.”
Cheer has become more than just a sport for Hisey, it’s a place where she has learned to challenge herself, connect with others, make new friends, and learn valuable lessons. She looks forward to making new memories, learning more, and growing with the Shadow Ridge cheer team.
