Kingston Jerome is a senior boys’ volleyball player known for his athleticism, dedication, and leadership on and off the court. As a key player throughout his high school career, he has consistently brought energy, skill, and passion to the game, earning respect from teammates, coaches, and opponents alike.

Jerome says, “I started playing volleyball at a young age in kindergarten or 1st grade. I grew up around the sport so I always wanted to play the sport. What made me stick with the sport is because that is all my mind knows how to connect with.”
The aspect of his game that he has worked the hardest to improve is his setting accuracy, and footwork.
“A typical practice for me during the season is really based on the opponent we face throughout the week. It can either be defensive or offensive based. So practice can be a surprise everyday. Also, the intensity everyone brings on the team makes sure everyone is going to get better every single practice,” says Jerome.

Jerome’s pregame routine is to just simply sit down and write 222 on his left wrist tape and before he walks out the locker room he puts on a smile and thinks only positive thoughts.
Jerome says, “How I mentally prepare for a big rivalry match or just a big match is to sit in the locker room when no one is around and just sit with my thoughts, no music or anything else. When everything starts to settle in my head I start to write something I am grateful for that happened earlier that day and continue from there.”
The most challenging part for Jerome as a student-athlete is most definitely time management. He struggles a lot with procrastination and just simply going to school at times.
“How I and my teammates stay motivated throughout the season and in tough matches is by being there for one another and keeping a loving and positive circle around us. Personally, I lead these boys by playing at a standard that every single one of us should play at. So when in times of hope or feeling of stress we don’t shy away from it but take it as a challenge to keep pushing for better,” says Jerome.
The most memorable moment in his volleyball career so far is when he and his team won a 5 set thriller match on his senior night against Centennial. It truly was a special night that he will never take for granted.
