Many students have turned to mourning as the USwirl they have all come to know and love will be undergoing a rebrand and changing its name to Yogurtini. The name change has left several students in despair as they hosted a “funeral” for the formerly known USwirl by wearing all black in remembrance for the name. Senior Chance Mayhew was one of the masses who decided to decorate himself in black in commemoration of the franchise rebrand.
“I went through a day of fasting and mourning, wearing black all day. I vowed to not eat frozen yogurt the rest of the week,” Mayhew says.
Senior Jenalyn Ho really was saddened by the news so much so to the point of a physical reaction.
“I was awoken from the call I received telling me about the name change. I fell to my knees and now am wearing black in condolence,” says Ho.
The all black attire doesn’t just end there, senior Caiden Bily also participated in the matter.
“I mean dressed in all black for the proper occasion of such a tragedy,”
The news of the change really did affect these students, making them turn to sadness and anger.
“USwirl has been there on the downs and the lows, whenever I was at my lowest I went with my friends to USwirl so the fact they’re getting rid of my favorite place enrages me and fills me with sorrow,” says Mayhew.
USwirl has been a support system for these students for a very long time and they don’t know that it will ever be the same in the froyo world.
“I hate it. Devastated. Uswirl really rolls off the tongue. It’s been around at the times I’ve been sad and hurt. And it’s been around for my friends and I to go too when we want to get lit and have a fun treat. Uswirl has given me and my loved ones so many memories that now saying “yogurtini” really irks my gears,” says Ho.
The name change has even made them feel less likely to dine in with Yogurtini as they feel it takes away from the loved classic frozen yogurt feel.
“Less of a dine in bc USwirl is bright and fun (really embodies what froyo is all about) now yogurtini just feels like you’re going in to get basic ice cream,” says Ho.
Needless to say, this name change has not been easy on everyone and hopefully USwirl takes this into consideration to further satisfy their original customers.
