Shadow Ridge is home to a multitude of extracurricular activities. These can range from football to the Video Game Club. One of these activities is Shadow Ridge’s very own Key Club Chapter
Key Club is an international student-led organization, which aims to provide its members with opportunities to provide service, build character as well as develop leadership skills. Key Club’s core values are caring, inclusiveness, and leadership.
Shadow Ridge’s Key Club chapter meets every Tuesday at 1:30 PM in room 907. Once a month on Tuesday, a meeting is held for the Chick-fil-A Leadership Program for members who signed up to participate in it.
The Chick-fil-A Leadership Academy aims to expose students to unique ideas, while also engaging them with a combination of storytelling and technology. Each month, students participate in a Leader Lab. Leader Labs give students the tools they need to make a difference in their community.

Shadow Ridge Key Club Advisor, Rhealyn Boquiren explains the order of events in an average Key Club meeting, stating “The presenter for the day, usually the club’s president, starts off with special announcements, such as birthdays, celebrations, and current events. Next, the presenter will then share information about upcoming volunteer events that will either count as club or individual volunteer hours. The club will then participate in a game organized by our board to help members get to know each other better, practice teamwork, and inspire fun. Finally, if time permits we will wrap up our meetings with volunteer work, such as helping teachers on-campus clean their classrooms, make dog toys to donate to an animal shelter, make plans for homeless people, and put together book bags to donate to younger students.”
Key Club has multiple upcoming events for new and current members to look forward to. On April 9th, there was a Key Club division council meeting at West Career and Technical Academy. This meeting was a banquet to welcome new Key Club leadership while also serving as a send off for the former leadership.
There are also individual volunteer opportunities available currently. Members of Key Club can volunteer and help run the snack bar at varsity softball home games. The dates available for this are April 4th, April 5th, April 10th, April 21st, and April 22nd.
For students still on the fence about joining Key Club, Boquiren explains why she thinks students should join Key Club, stating, “Students who like to discuss and partake in community service should join Key Club. We have partnered with the Outdoor Club to help clean-up the school’s front parking lot. We try to find ways to volunteer on-campus for students who struggle to attend service events off-campus. Joining this club can help students get to know their peers and build positive relationships.”
