Nevada’s annual reading week is set to have its 38th anniversary starting March 3rd, 2025. Nevada Reading Week aims to promote reading and literacy, as well as aiming to cultivate a love of reading among students of all grade levels state wide.
“The theme for 2025 is Color Your World with Books,” states Shadow Ridge High School Librarian Lisa Williamson. “This year’s theme aims to encourage creativity and diverse reading experiences. Schools often incorporate this theme into decorations, lesson plans, and spirit days to make reading fun and engaging for students.”
Shadow Ridge will be engaging with this year’s theme all week long, each day will feature a unique theme based on this year’s overarching theme. These secondary themes will influence each day’s outfit theme as well as each day’s lunch activity.
To start the week off, Monday is Favorite Color Day. Students will be encouraged to incorporate their favorite color into their outfit for the day. During lunch, students will be able to color print outs of book covers as well as create their own bookmarks and origami.

Following this up, Tuesday will be Black and White Day. This day will focus on classic books. Students who would like to participate in this day’s theme should wear Black or White outfits. At lunch, students will be encouraged to create black and white versions of their favorite book covers. Tuesday will also feature an extension activity where a short film adaptation of a classic book will be screened during lunch.
After that, Wednesday will be Mismatched Day. To adhere to the theme, students should wear mismatched outfits. During this day’s lunch, there will be a book scavenger hunt for students to take part in.
Up next, Thursday will be Sports Jersey Day. Students should wear their favorite jersey on this day. Thursday’s lunch activity will be a hall of fame display. Students will be able to post their favorite books with an explanation of why those books made their list. Thursday will also feature book bingo as an extension activity.
Finally, Friday will be Pajama Day. Students should wear their pajamas on this day. Friday’s lunch activity will be a Read-a-Thon, where students will create a cozy reading environment and be able to read during lunch.
Throughout the week, there will also be a guess the book cover game in the morning announcements.
One Shadow Ridge Student shares their excitement about the upcoming reading week stating, “I think it’ll be fun to have something to do during lunch. I think I’m most excited for Black and White day because of the movie.”
“There is a capacity at the library during each lunch, and no eating is permitted in the library, so if students plan on attending any of the lunch activities, they need to arrive early and have their IDs to scan in/out.” states Williamson
