At Shadow Ridge High School on Tuesday, January 28th, students were visited by a real Army Medical Trailer, brought by the SRHS local Army recruiter. A tour of the trailer was made available to all teachers and students who signed up to attend.
There have been many showcases like this over the years at Shadow Ridge, all serving beneficial information to students, especially those who are considering joining the Army or studying in the medical field.
Amanda Becker, one of Shadow Ridge High School’s event planners and coordinators, helped organize the appearance of the Army Medical Trailer this year.
According to Becker, “It is extremely important to have things like this on school campus so that students can see the vast amount of career opportunities available to them. Maybe someone never thought about going into the medical field, but after visiting the medical trailer now they found their calling.”
Counselors and most Junior Studies teachers at Shadow Ridge High School almost always have opportunities and information about college available for students, especially Cassie Murray, who can be found in The Corner in the counselors’ office.
Cadet Senior Airman John Navarro, a junior at Shadow Ridge, comments “I think the medical trailer inspired students by showcasing a typical day to day life of an Army medical recruit, how the field works, and its history as a profession.”
The Army medical trailer that visited Shadow Ridge was definitely one of a kind.

According to Becker, “There was a digital operating table, a medical STEM exhibit going over the different innovations over the years developed by the Army, two state of the art training dummies that provide real feedback regarding triage and medical care, medical equipment use and overview, and several educational games students were able to play.”
With the fun visit from the Army medical trailer came an abundance of educational opportunities. Cadet Senior Airman Ashley Tueme, a freshman at Shadow Ridge states, “I was personally very interested because learning about how army medics assess injured patients is something that everyone can benefit from in the future. You’ll never know when you’ll need to use gauze for a wound or how to stop bleeding from an injury and so on.”
The Army medical trailer’s visit to Shadow Ridge provided countless unique and educational opportunities, inspiring curious students to take an interest in medical careers. Experiences like these help widen students’ varieties of different available career paths to open doors to future possibilities.
