At Shadow Ridge High School, many students are joining the great Unplugged and Outdoors Club, run by Mr. McKee in room 806 The club meets every other Monday at 1:30 p.m.
The Unplugged and Outdoors Club has been running for two great years, keeping students active and attached to the beautiful nature found all around the world.

As the club’s advisor, Mr. McKee leads the club’s activities and supervises students to make sure everything runs safely and efficiently. McKee comments, “My goal is to encourage students to take ownership of the club while being available to provide advice and resources as needed.”
A typical club meeting would entail students collaborating with each other to plan fun activities such as hikes, service projects, brainstorming new ideas, and assigning roles among themselves for each upcoming activity.
To look into joining the club, students need to see Mr. McKee before or after school in room 806 or email him at [email protected].
The Unplugged and Outdoors Club is a great way to get outside and enjoy the beauty of nature with friends and peers. McKee adds, “The club offers students a chance to disconnect from their screens and reconnect with nature. It helps them build teamwork, leadership skills, and a sense of responsibility.”

Being a member in the club means taking leadership, disengaging from the internet, making memories, and connecting with Mother Nature.
The Unplugged and Outdoors Club also tends to the local Shadow Ridge Garden, which can be found in the Counselors’ Quad between the 800s and 900s stairways.
Students in the Unplugged and Outdoors Club can take away guidance and nature skills, social skills, and can become more extroverted and connected with the sights and sounds of the world.
McKee says, “Students leave with a greater appreciation for nature and the environment and practical skills like teamwork, leadership, and gardening techniques. Through service projects, they also develop a stronger sense of community and pride in their school. Above all, they take away unforgettable memories and the realization that life is richer when you unplug and spend time outdoors.”

A student in the Unplugged and Outdoors Club wouldn’t just become more in tune with nature, but will also be given numerous opportunities to learn more about nature as a whole. The Unplugged and Outdoors Club can be described as not just a school club, but it can also be seen as a community.
