Students in the Film Studies program at Shadow Ridge High School are gearing up for an unforgettable educational experience as they prepare for an upcoming trip to Universal Studios. Scheduled for the year 2025, this excursion promises to offer students a unique behind the scenes look at one of the most iconic film studios in the world, enriching their understanding of the film industry and inspiring their creative pursuits.
The trip is organized by Ms. Tania Webb, the dedicated Film Studies teacher at Shadow Ridge, who believes that exposure to real-world filmmaking environments is essential for aspiring filmmakers.
“The kids seemed to have a lot of fun on last year’s trip. Why not have fun and learn at the same time? It’s every teacher’s (and student’s) dream,” Ms. Webb said.
As part of the itinerary, students will embark on a guided tour of the Universal Studios backlot, where they will explore famous movie sets and learn about the various stages of film production. The tour will include visits to iconic locations, such as the sets of beloved films like “Jurassic Park,” and “Harry Potter World.” Students will have the chance to witness how these elaborate environments are created and maintained, gaining insights into the set design and production process.
Ms. Webb says, “There are so many cinema-related rides and worlds. There is Nintendo World, Harry Potter World, Jurassic park and Transformers rides and much much more.”
The trip will also include a visit to the Universal Studios theme park, where students can enjoy attractions inspired by their favorite films and unwind after a day of learning.
“The purpose of the trip is so that students can go on many rides that show behind the scenes of film making,” Ms. Webb says.
The commitment demonstrated by the students and their families has been commendable, with many expressing enthusiasm for the opportunity to deepen their understanding of film.
As the departure date draws near, excitement is building among the students. Many are eager to connect with their peers who share a passion for filmmaking and to create lasting memories together. Ms. Webb emphasized the importance of this experience in fostering camaraderie within the program.
She states, “I’m considering making Universal Studios a trip that happens every other year. In the opposite year I am considering doing a local trip to see a film at the Sphere.”
As they prepare for this enriching adventure, the students of Shadow Ridge High School’s Film Studies program are set to embark on a journey that promises to inspire their creativity and passion for filmmaking. With the chance to learn from industry veterans and explore one of the most famous studios, this trip is sure to leave a lasting impact on their educational journey.
