In 2025 at Shadow Ridge High School, the Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) has planned and will be participating in a list of astonishing events for this upcoming school year.
JROTC at Shadow Ridge is a cadet-run program under the supervision of Sergeant Zimmerman and Sergeant Johson in the 400s hallway.
The JROTC program participates in a number of events throughout the entire school year, including football games, volunteering, and their very own drill competitions.
Sophomore Cadet Vanessa Gianinni says, “JROTC actually has their own flag football team provided by members of the PFT team!” Coming up on January 25th, students in JROTC will be participating in the PFT Flag Football game at Durango High School.
A number of events will take place in February such as PFT meets, drill meets, and the Rock N Roll Marathon, according to freshman Cadet Ashley Tueme.
“The first drill meet that ‘counts’ (aka not a practice competition) will be February 8th at Palo Verde High School. The unarmed drill team, which I am a member of, and the armed drill team, will respectively be performing an exhibition, a variety of marching sequences that are alternate from the standard ones usually performed,” states Tueme.
Also happening in February, says Tueme, “the PFT meets (physical fitness team) will involve exercises that cadets have been conditioning for all last semester such as push-ups, sit-ups, and more. The program definitely encourages all that want to support the AFJROTC program to go to these meets.”
These meets are open to the public for those who like to give their support to Shadow Ridge’s JROTC.
The Rock N roll Marathon is a 5k race that will take place on the Las Vegas Strip on February 22nd.
Gianinni includes, “The Rock N Roll marathon consists of 5k, 10k, and half marathon distances. The JROTC student volunteers will be assisting with handing out water to the runners at different mile marks.”
The Shadow Ridge JROTC has and will continue to participate in events all throughout the 2025-2026 school year.
In March, the annual Cadet Ball will be held at the Westgate Hotel from 5:45 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on March 29th.
Gianinni adds, “the cadet ball is a dance where every JROTC unit in Las Vegas comes together to have the time of their lives. It is an incredibly enjoyable night that includes a buffet, dancing, and drill downs.”
The JROTC program is available for all students at Shadow Ridge High School to learn and participate in events throughout their entire high school experience.
