The Men’s Volleyball Team at Shadow Ridge High School is gearing up for an exciting winter season under the leadership of Head Coach, Luke Wilson. With a strong mix of returning players and new talent, the team is focused and ready to make a statement on the court. Coach Wilson, known for his dedication and strategic approach, has been hard at work preparing the team for the challenges ahead.
“Our most critical area of improvement will be creating growth from last season. We have the majority of our team coming back and we have to minimize distractions and focus on improvements,” says Wilson.
Shadow Ridge’s greatest strength is their program’s culture. They have a “We Over Me” mentality from the managers to the players to the coaches.
Wilson says, “Do what is best for the team and everything else falls into place. The program is best when everyone is invested in every team and that is not just the varsity team.”
Being able to have that strong backup where all parents and students are not just focusing on the varsity players but also the ones who are working to get up to that level is such a big part when it comes to supporting the Shadow Ridge Men’s Volleyball Team.
“To be a captain they are the ones that can act as a coach on and off the court. They do the right thing when nobody’s watching. They also hold others accountable without the coach having to do it,” says Wilson.
Everyone has a role and they will all be needed at some point throughout the season, it’s not just a one man show everyone is needed when it comes to the Men’s Volleyball Team.
“Being able to be a starter on a varsity team can sometimes be a struggle, the best player in that situation will play. If you can help us win you will play,” says Wilson.
To build and maintain morale, especially during a challenging or losing streak, they have to focus on the big goals that can sometimes lead them in the wrong direction. Being able to maintain growth is a big way to be successful.
“We watch films and are known around the city as the most prepared team. We want to be watching more film and having harder practices as the season progresses,” says Wilson.
Whether through intense practices or strong team chemistry, the players are united in their goal to make this season one to remember. The Shadow Ridge Men’s Volleyball team is poised for success, and the entire school community can look forward to an action-packed, competitive season ahead.
