Shadow Ridge takes pride in its culturally diverse student population, which shows a rich tapestry of backgrounds, traditions, and perspectives. Shadow Ridge is a place where students have a community where every student feels seen and valued.
Shadow Ridge has embraced student-led cultural organizations that celebrate diversity, including Black Student Union (BSU), Latino Student Union (LSU), and the Polynesian Club. These clubs play a large role in building a welcoming environment for students from all different cultures, and encourage Mustangs to connect with each other’s heritage.
The Black Student Union at Shadow Ridge offers a space for students to celebrate African American culture, history, and achievements. BSU provides students with a platform to discuss issues impacting Black communities, both locally and nationally, while also showing a sense of unity and empowerment. Through events, community service, and cultural awareness activities, BSU highlights the contributions of Black figures and shares their stories with the wider school community. By focusing on identity, education, and advocacy, the club encourages students to learn more about African American history and its relevance in today’s society. BSU also welcomes non black students by involving them to participate in discussions and events to get a deeper understanding of the African American community.
The Black Student Union (BSU) exists to uplift Black voices, celebrate Black culture, and create a supportive environment for students of all backgrounds to learn and grow together. Its purpose is to foster unity and encourage dialogue around cultural and social issues. Open to students of every race, BSU aims to build a community that values diversity, inclusion, and mutual respect. Students may join by paying a $20 fee (in cash) to the banker before, during, or after school. The meetings are held in Room 311 on Thursdays.
Shadow Ridge’s Latino Student Union celebrates the culture of Latin American cultures. LSU provides a supportive space where Latino students can share their experiences, connect with their heritage, and take pride in their identities. LSU organizes events and activities that show the beauty and diversity of Latino culture, from Dia de los Muertos celebrations to dances that honor the music and traditions of Latin America. Through LSU students gain the opportunity to celebrate their roots and educate others on the richness of Latin American culture. The club shows the importance of cultural pride, and community support. LSU is not only a club for Latino students but also for the entire shadow ridge community to learn about Latino heritage and traditions.
