Mustang Mack is the horse shaped mascot for Shadow Ridge High School. Since 2003, when the school first opened, Mack has been bringing that Mustang pride to these halls. Even though Mustang Mack will remain masked, he still has a few words he would like to share with the student body.
In Mack’s world, to be a Mustang is no small feat. “It means to be the Mustang, Mack the Mustang. It’s the character of… a person who represents the rest of the people within the school.”
It is without doubt that this campus celebrity takes his job as a full-time “hype man” very seriously. For good reason too.
No one knows or loves Shadow Ridge as much as Mack.
“There’s a statue of me outside, that means something. I am this school, “he declared.
Throughout the year students can find Mack at any school assembly, pep rally, or parade. It is his job to keep not only the students but the whole community in good spirits.
As of recently, Mustang Mack lost his gloves. Something he described to play a key role in achieving that Mustang “swagger.”
Mustang Mack has been sporting his black, faux fur gloves, for as long as this school has stood. So, the loss was damaging, to say the least.
“It felt like a part of me was missing. It was very uncomfortable to be bare-hooven,” he confessed.
That being said, Mack may not be totally forgiven for the disappearance of his gloves.
“Mistakes were made, confusion happens,” he said
The gloves were lost at freshman orientation. Though Mack pleads not guilty the fact still stands that this was a great loss. Mack’s life without gloves was something he wouldn’t wish on any mascot. The day after the gloves were lost he was spotted scouring the internet to find replacements, but it was to no avail. The poor Mustang spent three months without his hooves and the horse’s self worth was at an all time low.
“This is why most horses have their hoofs permanently attached!” Mack was outraged.
However, all the moping came to a sudden stop when a heroic Ms. Coyle came to Mack with a small box. Inside of it was nothing other than a brand new pair of gloves, almost identical to the last ones. Mustang Mack was more than grateful.
“It is so nice to have them back,” he said.
Now that Mustang Mack is feeling himself, he can go on, saving the school once again.
