Senior Angelica Luff is the awesome Student Body President at Shadow Ridge. The elections were held on February 9th, but Luff officially started her reign in the summer 2024-2025 school year. Luff works extremely hard in her position and is determined to help Shadow Ridge as much as she can.
As Student Body President, Luff has many little tasks and takes care of large school events such as Homecoming, assemblies, and staff/student appreciation events. As president, Luff also keeps in communication with outside organizations such as NASC (Nevada Association of Student Councils) by going to student body president meetings and other events to generate ideas for Shadow’s council and to win awards.
Being president can definitely be stressful sometimes because Luff has to balance school events and grades with her social life and NASC work, but the reward of success makes it all worth it.
“My favorite part [about my position] is seeing how people react to student body events, such as when we hear awesome feedback from assemblies,” Luff comments. “It’s so rewarding to see how everyone’s hard work has paid off and made a difference in bettering our school environment.”
The Shadow Ridge Student Body President is a different position than each class president. The Student Body President organizes events that involve the majority of the student body. Luff works with presidents from all of the classes and splits the work for student body events between grade levels.
One of Luff’s fellow StuCo members, sophomore Lily Butler, really admires Luff’s leadership and hard work.
“Angelica is a dedicated leader who has truly made a positive impact on our school,” Butler says. “She’s hardworking, caring, and thoughtful in all she does, she always goes the extra mile to make sure things run smoothly. Her example has shown me how the student council should handle events with care and attention to detail. I’m really grateful for the chance to work alongside her, and I’ve learned so much from her leadership.”
Luff has been in Student Council (StuCo) for 4 years now and has always shown a lot of dedication. As soon as she could run for a position her sophomore year she jumped at the chance. She had always been interested in student body positions because she knew that is where she could make the biggest difference. Luff studied the position of Student Body President all last year while she was a junior, building her knowledge in StuCo and showing what she is willing to do for Shadow Ridge. Luff always knew she wanted to do more and set her mind on being Student Body President.
Luff was the Sophomore Class Vice President, she then moved to Student Body 1st Vice President her junior year, and now during her senior year, she is Student Body President. During her junior year, Luff ran a conference for middle school student councils, becoming a conference co-chair for the state board along with two others. She is also a member of the Nevada State Student Council as the division 5A Vice President.
Luff loves everything about StuCo, but she knows that some jobs are more important than others.
“I think my most important job is allowing everyone in the council to feel heard and have their leadership grow so more council members can find passions in student council!” Luff said.
Luff has also changed her view on many things through this position. She’s learned that patience is super important, because trusting people will always be more beneficial than doing things for them.
