At Shadow Ridge, the morning announcements are more than just daily updates. They are a blend of creativity, skill, and teamwork. A dedicated team of students and staff work hard every morning to script, film, and post announcement videos that keep students informed and entertained.
Video productions I and II teach the basics and build students up to Video Productions III. Third year students work on the announcements videos in their morning class. Students who are behind the scenes work on scripts, graphics, and help the videos flow. Every student has a role in producing the announcements.
Video productions advisor, Bill Roe stated, “The lower level video classes learn about all aspects of the video production process, this includes planning, filming, editing and post production on different types of videos. All of this helps them get ready for the video announcements they will do in Video III. Video III students behind the scenes are in the studio working the equipment that makes the announcements happen and other students in class are preparing the next day’s announcement.”
Video productions students work most of the morning to get the announcements ready and create the scripts and graphics from the information they get from sports and clubs. Advisors can submit information about their sport or club to the announcements to get the word out to everybody.
Roe continues, “There is an Announcement Submission Form that teachers and sometimes students can fill out to tell us what they would like to have us inform the faculty and staff about on the announcements. After we get the submission, students create the script and graphic for that announcement.”
Producing the announcements takes a lot of hard work and dedication as well as teamwork. Students have to communicate with each other to make sure everything on the announcements is clear and flows well.
Senior, Paislee Coache stated, “We talk about what needs to get done and then the teacher will split the different scripts so that everybody has a part and we all make graphics. Behind the scenes there are different parts that everyone has to do to get the announcements to roll and go on in the mornings during the 3rd or 4th period. Smooth communication between everyone is when we are in class and reading over the scripts making sure that they are ready and prepared. We also email or text each other to see who is doing what so we don’t have a repeat of what is done.”
