Layla Carlos is an 18-year-old senior at Shadow Ridge who is very well-rounded in her involvement in so many different activities around school.
Carlos states, “I’m in Concert Band and Jazz Band, where I play trombone. I am also the jazz vocalist for Jazz band.” But, that’s not all.
She comments, “I’m also in Chamber Choir, and I got into the CCSD Honor Choir this year. I’m in Color Guard and Winter Guard where I’m the Head Color Guard Captain.”
“I also used to be on the Dance Team, where I was a member for 2 years,” said Carlos. “I also starred in the musical last year, and I plan to audition for it again this year.”
She has been in Chamber Choir for 1 year, and this year will be her first year participating in the CCSD Honor Choir, which is a very great achievement and opportunity for her.
In Jazz Band, she has held the role of Jazz Vocalist for 2 years, and for both Bands, she is a trombonist, with 3 years in Jazz Band and 4 years in Concert Band.
Carlos has also participated in Color Guard for 4 years, where she has been captain for 3, and Winter Guard captain for 1.
In her previous years of high school, she participated in Dance Team for 2 years, and starred in her first Shadow Ridge musical last year.
Carlos has reached a great number of achievements in her years of high school so far.
She says, “I don’t really have a favorite, it kind of changes throughout the year, but I usually have the most fun in Color Guard and dance.”
While most of her activities are sports, she still finds the time for Choir, Theater, and Jazz band.
Considering she has starred in just one play, she adds, “I wish I could be more involved with Theatre, because I only did one show, and I want to do more.”
And even with her other activities, she’s still keeping her desire to be in theater alive as she plans to audition for one of the upcoming productions being performed this school year.
Alongside theater, as previously stated, she has also been playing the trombone in Jazz Band since her freshman year.
Over the years, Carlos has gotten involved in tremendous ways all around Shadow Ridge in various departments and subjects, leaving her with amazing memories to kick off her senior year.
