Trevor Grondahl, a senior at Shadow Ridge High School, is a multi-talented student. He currently rides BMX and sings. Grondahl started both activities when he was very young, and has since worked hard to improve his skills. He began singing in elementary school by joining the school’s choir, and also started BMX at only seven years old. He loves both hobbies, and hopes to continue them throughout his life, whether professionally or just for fun.
Grondahl was inspired to start BMX by his friends who were already riding. He was excited to try it out, and after he learned the basics, things only got better. Grondahl currently rides for a local BMX club, called the Rattlers, in which he competes in various races and competitions. His most thrilling experience was racing in a regional championship. Highlights of his BMX career include winning his very first race and making it to the finals in one of his major events.
One of Grondahl’s teammates, Kole Cooper, is also impressed by Grondahl.
“Trevor’s skills are pretty impressive every time we ride there’s always new tricks in the bag and he’s always pushing,” Cooper said.
Grondahl also enjoys many different aspects of his sport.
“My favorite part about BMX is the adrenaline rush and the community,” Grondahl said. “I have a great relationship with my teammates and coaches; they are really encouraging and knowledgeable and help me to improve my skills.”
As for his future, Grondahl hopes to continue riding after high school, hopefully at a higher level.
“Whether I go professional or just for fun depends on how things develop,” Grondahl says.
His role model in the world of BMX is a professional rider named Jackson Goldberg. Grondahl admires Goldberg for his style and technique. While Goldberg is great, Grondahl also looks up to his older teammates that have excelled in the sport.
Grondahl’s other favorite hobby is singing. He sings soprano and excels at it. He was encouraged by his music teacher to participate in the school’s choir, and since he loves music, it felt natural. Since then, he has sung in various groups, including school choirs and local ensembles.
Grondahl loves singing because of the joy it brings him and the ability to express his emotions through the music. He has many supporters, the biggest one being his family. They come to all of his performances and are always encouraging. His friends are also supportive of his talent.
As for after high school, Grondahl definitely wants to keep singing.
“I love the emotional connection it brings, but there are times when the pressure can be overwhelming, and I’ve thought about stepping back,” he comments.
Whether it is as a potential career or not, Grondahl will always enjoy singing as a passion.
