Now that it is entering October, there’s more dropping besides the temperature. The theater department is holding their great annual Fright Gram fundraiser starting on the 21st of October and ending on the 25th. The fundraiser will be stationed outside the cafeteria, which is the perfect place for students to go if they want to indulge themselves in the sweet chocolatey goodness.
The Fright Gram fundraiser is a special chance for the theater to earn some fast cash while keeping the students’ gluttonous behavior at bay with store-bought candy. Not only do they sell little fun-sized candy bars, but they go as far as to hand-make some terrifying cuddly teddy bears for $5.00 for a person’s enjoyment.
Theatre Council Vice President Shaia Snyder says, “The bears are made out of soft material, we hand sew on each button, eye, and nose. The candies are fun-sized to the point where they can fit into a nicely decorated bag along with a carefully made spooky bear fit with creative and carefully devised attributes.”
President Mars Gaston of the Theater Council was the student who implemented this fundraiser. Gaston thought up the idea so that the theater students and crew could raise more money for more tools and equipment to use on building sets for productions.
Gaston says, “One of our assignments last year in our fashion class was to make a teddy bear, so I got the idea of maybe selling these to the students to make more money for the theater. Eventually all of us agreed that Halloween would be the best time to do it because we would have more ability to work with the seasonal theme. I wouldn’t take all the credit for the fundraiser, I may have come up with the idea of selling the bears but it was honestly a group collaboration.”
This collaborative spirit is what drives the Theater Council and their creative approach to fundraising. With the hardworking members of the council, students are sure to have a pleasantly mouth-watering and heart-stopping scary time with this well-put-together fundraiser. All students should consider going and buying a bear or at the very least treat themselves to a little bit of candy.
Snyder continues, “The people in charge of running the fundraiser are this year’s Theater Council, President, Mars Gaston, Secretary, Kawa Bostick, Treasurer, Austin Burnett, Communications Coordinator, Indy Rodriguez, Tech Coordinator, Olivia Giangregorio, and me, Shaia the Vice President.”
