The 4-year seniors on Shadow’s softball team have dedicated themselves to their sport, putting in years of hard work, commitment, and passion to get to where they are now. Their dedication and love for the game has motivated them to achieve many successes and create long lasting memories through softball.
Senior Abby Covington stated, “Being on the team has given me friendships that I know I will keep for a long time. It also allows me to mentor younger girls as well and pay it forward. It has taught me how to fail and come back stronger. One bad minute doesn’t mean a bad day. One bad at bat doesn’t mean a bad game.”
Being a part of the team not only provides students with lasting friendships, but also gives them the opportunity to help others and make an impact on their lives. Through mentoring the younger girls, Covington has the opportunity to share her knowledge and experiences, helping them to grow and improve. Softball teaches athletes to overcome setbacks and come back stronger and learn from their mistakes. It helps them to understand, on and off the field, that one bad moment does not define an entire day, or an entire practice.
Senior, Josslin Law stated, “It mainly impacted my relationships with people at the school. Being on the team all 4 years has allowed me to socialize with people in all grades which has greatly expanded my friendships and relationships off of the field. Softball wise, it has helped me learn to adjust to new coaches and players often and introduced me to what I think playing college will be like being with the same people so often throughout the season!”
Being on teams allows athletes to help each other, and gives them the chance to socialize with students who aren’t in their classes or their grades. Law underlines that being on the team has helped her learn to adjust to new coaches and new people. It has helped her to improve her friendships even beyond softball.
Law continues, “A goal that has always been at the top of my list was continuing to play in college on scholarship! I never cared where, as long as I was playing softball. I’m grateful to be able to carry out that goal starting this coming fall!”
Being on the team has helped students to make goals and stick to them. It helps students to figure out what they want to do and where they are going sooner.
