In his first year of running track, Evander Thomas ran a 10.6 in the 100 meter dash, a 21.53 in the 200 meter dash, and 49.12 in the 400 meter dash. For anyone who has no clue how track works, those times as a first year are phenomenal and extremely hard to accomplish for an average track runner, however, Thomas happens to be well above average, breaking not one, not two, but 3 school records here at Shadow.
Thomas has very high expectations this season and is looking forward to accomplishing his goals. He plans on ending his last high school season on a high note and he is ready to transfer into college track.
Thomas states, “I’ve definitely been waiting for track season to start. Especially since I’m approaching the end of my high school career, I have a lot of eyes on me, high expectations for myself and my coaches. So I really just want to be able to perform what I’ve been working hard for during the off season and make not only myself proud but the people who have supported me up until this point.”
Thomas has really shown consistency compared to this season and the season prior, which is nothing but good, and he shows positive signs towards creating personal records, especially as he enters the end of the season where he is able to peak and run in the best shape possible.
“The competition makes me want to push to stay fast and to have the fastest time in the state,” stated Thomas.
Although this is only Thomas’ second year of running track, he has been offered to go to D1 colleges including Arizona State University and Texas Christian University.
“I’m currently not committed as of right now but, I definitely look forward to announcing my decision very soon,” stated Thomas.
Thomas is a great athlete and keeps his grades up; he is a true student-athlete. Thomas is also one of the team captains for Shadow’s Track and Field Team. He is a great role model and leader towards all of his teammates.
Coach Mike, the head coach of the boy’s team states, “You only get an athlete like Vander every few years. His ability to work hard goes hand in hand with his natural talent. He gets great grades and I truly couldn’t ask for a better athlete. Vander is also a great leader, always willing to teach his teammates and learn from himself as well.”
