Through the substantial decrease in readers as of 2023, in shifting over to technological entertainment, club co-founders, juniors, Savannah McDow, and Isabella Mora, are reconnecting Shadow Ridge to its literature-based past, through Shadow’s very own Book Club.
In starting this club, McDow explains, “The other co-founder, Isabella Mora, and I, had been sitting on this idea for a long time. But, towards the end of our sophomore year, we decided to finally start the process of creating a club. While it was not the easiest thing to do, we had a lot of fun designing, crafting, and shaping the club into what it will soon become,” McDow adds. “Bella, and I, wanted to bring some more variety into the long list of already existing clubs, specifically for the people who love to read, as much as we do. On top of creating all of the rules, and details for the club, we have created a fantastic, and hard-working board, to oversee the club’s wants and needs.”
Putting together a strong, and cooperative team, ensures only the best for the club, and provides a more stable, and supportive atmosphere, moving forward. Each, and every member all works together, in putting the best interests of the book club forward.
“The book club’s goal is to unite all book lovers with open arms, in a comforting, and welcoming space. As readers, we already bounce between different realities, and to experience that with someone else, who shares the same passions, can be very exciting,” says McDow.
In hopes of bringing together a society of readers here at Shadow, the book club aims to create an imaginative space for members to express ideas within one another.
Mcdow expresses, “The club is based on what its members want to read, and what they really enjoy. Each book is member selected, ranging from fantasy, to thriller; there is a little bit of everything, for everyone to enjoy. Outside of whatever current book is being read, members can discuss any books they have read, or want to read. It is a fun time for readers to express their love and joy, for ink on paper.”
For those interested in reading, this club provides opportunities to get together with others who share the same interests, and spark conversations about new possibilities. Discussing new topics, about both old stories, and new, members are encouraged to share their ideas, making the book club a lively place to be.
According to McDow, “The club meets biweekly, on Mondays, and continues to read a single book, over the course of two months. This time frame gives everyone time to finish the book, and the opportunity to conversate, and meet others with the same interests. Each meeting’s agenda is based on the timeline, in which it takes place; for example, when a meeting happens after finishing a book, it will consist of choosing a new book, discussing how everyone felt about the previous book, and much more. The goal is for everyone to get involved, meet new people, and experience a different side of the story, through someone else’s eyes.”
