The Tree: Stanford University

So this one is a weird one, the Tree is not the official mascot of the school, it is a member of the band at Stanford, but this tree is loved by everyone at the school, which is why he could not be left out of the list. The Tree is officially the mascot of the band, unofficially the mascot of the university. Trees are an important icon in Palo Alto, CA, where Stanford is located. For the last twenty years, there has been a fairly formal selection process for the student who gets to play the tree. It sounds like a giant, popular, ironic responsibility that is in quite high demand in the Stanford community. The Tree is not the same each year, with it being created by the band at Stanford and represented by a designated student.
