Camryn Taylor, Journalist

New year, new resolutions. Every year people find new things to accomplish over the new year but do people actually go through with some of these crazy resolutions?

Unfortunately, many resolutions are set up for inevitable disappointment and eventual burn-out. On average, 80% of New Year’s resolutions fail by the second week of February,” according to the FSU News.

Here are some of the top resolutions of the year and how they can be completed in a reasonable way.

“According to a ComRes poll, the great majority, 71%, of New Year’s resolutions revolve around weight loss and fitness.”

Fitness and weight loss can be very hard to stay consistent with, getting a trainer can be expensive and gyms at this time are not the best option, so what’s a good alternative? Making a plan that isn’t too hard or too easy. Having on and off days and a diet plan that isn’t extraordinarily hard is one of the best things to do for a healthy way to lose weight and become healthy.

Physical fitness is a common New Year’s Resolution

The next most common new year’s resolution is to improve eating habits. This can be one of the hardest things to change depending on what a certain person’s schedule is and how much time someone has to prepare a healthy meal. People tend to go too far sometimes and not eat enough so having a plan is very important as well. Cravings can also be a challenge so it is very important to set healthy boundaries listening to what the body needs and wants!

The last 15% includes learning a new hobby, new skill, hanging out with friends and family more and working on self-care. Obviously, these can be pretty difficult with COVID, but having a healthy relationship with the mind and body is something very important that a lot of people forget about in times like these. Finding a new hobby can be found on social media and by friends, most hobbies can also be completed at home.

When people make a list of New Year resolutions, people tend to make the list negative by saying, “stop eating junk food” or “stop wasting money and time.” Changing the list to “eat healthier” or “stick to a reasonable budget” is a perfect way to change the attitude towards the resolution. Having a positive attitude towards these resolutions can also set a positive attitude towards life and the day!
