Although many may know him as a teacher, Mr. Bill Roe, Shadow’s  video productions teacher used to be a hard working editor and photographer for Las Vegas’ very own Channel 8 News.

Mr. Roe states, ¨I had a friend from another television job who started working at Channel 8.  He contacted me and told me there were some photographer openings.¨ He then stated a few weeks later ¨I sent in a resume and an example of my work. I flew out for an interview and a few weeks later I was hired.¨

 Although he is now a teacher, he has been working in the television industry for years. Roe keeps an extensive knowledge of many things that are included in the television industry. 

Roe says, ¨I got the job because I had left a job working in television news in Florida and I needed another job.¨ 

Because he was not from Las Vegas, he had to start over through his friends.

¨I wanted to continue working in television news so after my friend told me about the job I applied and got hired.¨ 

Roe continues to hold on to his friends even though he doesn’t work in the same industry anymore.

Although he didn´t start his career in education, Roe has always been interested in teaching and wanted to learn how to teach. After he left the television scene he started his career in teaching, getting his degree in the summer of 2021 and starting his job at Shadow that same year in October. He is a great addition to the Shadow staff, especially with all his experience in the video scene.

There were many different aspects to the news channel job but Roe states, ¨My favorite part of the job was interviewing people.  I have interviewed or filmed an interview with everyone from Barack Obama and Joe Biden to Kobe Bryant and Sylvester Stallone.  I also interviewed governors, sheriffs, county commissioners and the superintendent of CCSD.¨ 

 There world was at his fingertips. He has an extensive knowledge of not only the video world but also the world of Nevada. He has done many interviews and many amazing things that make him a great teacher.

With the many things to do on set, Roe claims, ¨I had many main roles.   I was primarily a photographer which included filming, lighting and audio.  I was also an editor, field producer, writer and director.¨

 This allowed Roe to keep himself busy and gain more knowledge on not only the field of video but photography too.
