To Gym or Not to Gym?

There is a new rising trend on social media that’s intriguing teenagers, and it’s taking the world by storm. Though there have always been gyms available, the use in them has been going up. This fact is attested to the increase in social media fitness influencers and videos.
The gym isn’t just an adult world anymore- a large population of Shadow Ridge’s student’s have been taking on the gym and improving their health.
“I feel much larger and stronger and [I feel like I’m] healthier overall,” junior, Carson Depauw says.
In the gym, teenagers are working on themselves to get stronger and to be more muscular.
Not only do students think of their outward appearance, but they also think of what’s going on inside. “It’s good for your heart,” junior, Portia Hamilton, states.
Don’t just take her word for it, Dr. Kerry Stewart also agrees, “One of the key benefits of exercise is that it helps to control or modify many of the risk factors for heart disease.”
But what else is inside Shadow Ridge students?
“It just makes me feel mentally better and healthy,” says sophomore, Danielle Franco, “When I go I don’t want to do anything and I feel unmotivated, but once I finish my workout I feel amazing [and good.]”
The gym has helped aid Franco in being more productive and feeling better about herself.
If you’re a student who wants to improve in being more efficient, the gym could be a place for you.
“Mentally it has trained me to be more disciplined,” stated sophomore, Kingston Jerome, “Emotionally I have been happier.”
The gym can improve your mental health. It is proven that the brain releases endorphins when working out, so Jerome is not wrong in saying that it makes him happier.
“It’s a mood booster, I think the gym keeps you on a good track,” says junior, Portia Hamilton. Though many teenagers who go to the gym are known to use lots of caffeine to improve their workouts, going to the gym can keep people on a good path and give them a different hobby to invest in.
Overall, the gym is very beneficial to the student’s of Shadow Ridge, not only for their physical health, but for their mental and emotional health as well.
